Nature's Entertainment

I have two speakers outside for music on the deck.
One is easily seen from the sofa where I often read, as I have been doing today since it is drippy outside.
Two birds, thrashers I think, have been busily engaged in building a nest on that speaker.  I know they're building a new nest because I cleaned the old one off the speaker.

They like that site because it's under the eaves for weather protection, and protected from predators by a pair of dachshunds that live out there.

The thrashers are very progressive in that the male not only helps to build the nest, he will help to feed the young.

It is the State Bird of Georgia.

Regards,
Russ

For the third year in a row, a little bird (a Wren) keeps building a nest in my grill.

The cover is up and the tiny air holes on the side are big enough for it that it makes a great spot for a nest.

Except when I want to grill something.

I have to keep a close eye on it. It is one thing to remove the partial nest over an over. It will be another thing if it completes it and lays eggs...

At that point my wife is not going to let me grill until after the chicks are hatched and gone.

Birds are industrious and fun, but some are not very smart.

I have a nook underneath my front porch eves which invited morning doves to build a nest. I ignored it but then noticed that local ravens had ravaged the nest and destroyed whatever might have been there. Yet, morning doves continue to try to nest there every year, so I have to remove the nests before the lay eggs to prevent them from being victimized by observant, hungry ravens every year. I am trying to save them from heartbreak.

They don't seem to mind, but I don't play it loud.

I'll bet they'd like Mozart, Bach or Beethoven.

And if you ever want to drive them away, all you'd have to do would be to play some rap/hip-hop. Of course that would also drive all of the normal human beings away as well. heh
