Cutting senior "talent" has always been a way to save a lot of $$$ in mass media production. This often happens after awards or high ratings, like Fox just got. The board is feeling strong about the brand and wants to streamline the talent (divest big dollar salary costs).
To test this theory we may see no high-salary talent replace Carlson - just a long stream of (much-lower-paid) "guests" until someone clicks.

Maybe Fox was uncomfortable with that aspect of his business - Rumble may in a sense also be a competitor to Fox News.
