The feeling when you tell the government to "leave me alone" and you're helpless...

Simply telling the government to "leave me alone" isn't good enough. A chuckle or immature laughter from the regime is all you're going to get in response.

But then again, society has already fallen apart.

EPA-enforced Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) standards have killed tens of thousands of innocent people.

They created in panic by the 1970s fuel embargos on Iran et al (domestic shortages) but instead of increasing domestic production/refining capacity by expanding oil production, they did this instead.

The only way to reduce weight of vehicles as forced on them by government, was for car makers to stop using heavier steel frames. Aluminum is much lighter but nowhere near as strong as steel, so people in T.A.s were severely injured/killed at a MUCH higher rate due to the weaker frames. This fact about CAFE standards has been acknowledged by government, but dismissed as "irrelevant". It has been our wise government's view that safety of human beings is not as important as reduction of energy consumption.

Ah, government standards. Surely they know what's best for us!

There are cars made out of aluminum that are designed with safety in mind, like the 1980s Mercedes cars. But nonetheless, government doesn't always know (or care) what's best for the citizens, because they are bureaucrats.

I agree with Stossel on why we should have limited government.

And while I support the idea of using alternative and renewable energy (solar, hydropower, wind, etc.) in some form, NONE of these are practical enough to replace the current energy source we have right now (like nuclear power). Solar takes up too much space, and batteries degrade over time. At best, they can serve as a supplement to the existing energy sources many have. It's actually good to try out new ideas.

But our government doesn't necessarily know engineering too well! All they know best is to take away people's freedom.

The rock band Rush inadvertently nailed it...

...in the song Witch Hunt...

Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and Prejudice and Fear walk
Hand-in-hand

Those who KNOW what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves
The "righteous" rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill
