A tribute to Teebone

Everyone grieves in their own way. I write. My wife and I wrote a poem about Barry. I refer to him as Teebone in the subject line because that was his "stage name" here. He was known as the light-hearted German Shepard of a poster who only seemed to want to have fun and be left alone. Teebone was not just a personality, but a man. To me he was...a heroic figure.

There are many types of heroes. Some are exceptional people in exceptional circumstances (like Medal-of-Honor winners), others are "ordinary" people in exceptional circumstances. I personally don't believe that God makes "ordinary" people. We all have within us a miraculous vitality a potential for wonders.

We develop as we can to express that vital spirit within in our own ways. I am proud to have known Barry and (I hope) called him a friend. But that is only if you can hold a friend in complete awe. Barry was larger than life to me and probably always will be. Being cheerful is a magnificent achievement so my hat's off to Barry, to Teebone. Whose posts, no matter how badly I might have felt, always uplifted me somehow.

That was just him. An amazing human being in so many ways. Not just missed terribly but tragically. Ladies and gentlemen, there will never be another such as this man - at least not in our lifetimes.

For me he was a guru of the most authentic sort.

My wife helped me write a tribute to him which is on PM only. I do not want to publish it on the open forum to avoid anyone appropriating my wife's hard work. We hope to make a proper country song out of it (I play guitar and she sings).

PM if you want to read it.

Hi all,

A longtime friend of Tee and I were able to contact family members in Pennsylvania, where Tee was from.  They are planning on an obituary at least.  I'm NOT sure about "services." Barry taken care of "on the county dime," so bringing the remains back, might be questionable and too costly for that.

I'm not sure if you are aware but Barry did have a daughter, whom he had not seen since she was about 5 (she is now 30) and three grandsons, none of whom ever had the opportunity to meet Barry and found out what a truly amazing man he really was

I can see why Tee thought you were "the cat's ass". You have more class in your little finger than people I know have in their whole family tree.

Chelle has expressed that she is devastated by his loss.

I am keeping my communication with her off the open forum for now. Anyone who is concerned may PM to me or of course, to her directly. If you simply want to be brought up to date, please consider contacting only me for now until I have a chance to communicate more with Chelle about her preferences in that regard.

Hi all,

After a LOT of phone calls, one of Barry's OLDEST friends was able to contact Joe.  I'm afraid the news is indeed true that Barry is no longer part of this Earth. He had CHF and COPD but apparently he also had a large hernia that had strangled and taken over the lower part of his abdomen and his genitalia and he was drinking codeine to ease the pain.

From what Joe told Suzanne, he took Barry to get more codeine on Monday.  On Wednesday, he had not seen Barry or heard him.  He went back to the bedroom and opened the door and apparently, Barry was "out of it" from the codeine and lying on his bed naked however, his testicles were extremely large.

Joe became concerned and called hospice and he was admitted to the hospital had surgery on Thursday March 10, 2022 and passed away March 11, 2022.  Afterwards, they learned that he was in stage 4 kidney failure as well, so from the sounds of things, the causes were multiple.

It also explains his attitude towards me, because the only way I can describe it was that he was acting like a wounded bear.

Thank you all SO very much for being a part of Barry's life through the years. I know how VERY much he loved all of you!

Chelle

I am deeply horrified and sad all at the same time to hear of his suffering. I am so sorry for your terrible loss, Chelle. I never even got to shake his hand, so I can only imagine how those who walked through life with him beside them must feel.

He was a big fan of a comedy group from the 1970s called the Firesign (sic) Theater. So was I. We both just happened to be into great radio-style comedy. Some of their record titles we laughed at were Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers, and I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus, and Everything You Know is Wrong, and Nick Danger and the Giant Rat of Sumatra.

Sounds weird (the players were for sure) but they did great productions complete with writing/sound-effects on par with the best old-time radio shows of yesteryear. They were amazing performers.

I'd notice he'd sometimes quote from one of their records on posts and I'd quote back the next lines or something else from their records. What a gas!! I have lost touch with everyone else I know who shared that, so now I am the only Firesign Theater fan I know. (sad face icon)

We both also liked National Lampoon's Radio Dinner, another comedy record similar to Firesign Theater's stuff. There was one song in particular off Radio Dinner I remember laughing with Tee about - if you've never heard it, check out, "Genius Is Pain," sung by a John Lennon impersonator. Tee appreciated the best comedy.

Tee also was a fan of the actor Peter Falk especially in films like The In-Laws, and The Cheap Detective, and so am I. Falk was also the title-character of a popular late-1960's T.V. comedy/drama crime series known as Columbo. 'Not bad for a guy with one fake eye!!  Only in America!! HAW!!

Barry knew great writing and recognized talent when he saw it, as likely do most true fans of cinema, T.V., music, literature.

Barry GOT Mel Brooks in a big way, same as I - particularly the darker movies like The Producers (with a song in it titled "Springtime for Hitler"), Life Stinks, Blazing Saddles, and Spaceballs. All brilliant, hilarious films.

Barry/Tee, had an AMAZING memory for movie lines!  We watched the movie Secretariat together and that started him asking me a MULTITUDE of questions about horses and horse racing in general, which happened to be my passion!  He would drive me insane though, if we were watching a movie I had never seen and he would be quoting the lines and me telling him to shut up so I could hear what was being said!
