Fuller liked the idea of a super-conducting energy grid with pressurized hydrogen as the core. 

Once created, the system could use surplus power (off peak) to make more hydrogen. 

Another thing a super-conducting grid might do is make it possible for power-generators in one time zone to forward power to other time-zones. Currently that is not economically feasible because of lost current over that distance. With higher efficiency it might be possible to transfer power-surpluses long distances.
