There needs to be a thorough investigation into the lapse of security which permitted an assassin with a knife to get close enough to the author at a public event to stab him. I know something of how security regards such matters - there should have been a no-go zone around the author which was controlled by armed security. They should have taken the attacker out long before he got anywhere near his target.

Maybe someone got paid off.
