Locally well-known musician, Barry Jonah Hirsh, formerly of Williamsport, Pa., passed away March 11, 2022 in Kendall Regional Medical Center, Miami, Fla. His death was due to complications from a long illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1949, the son of Lewis (Lou) and Molly Hirsh of Hepburn St., Williamsport. Barry graduated with the class of 1966 from Williamsport High School. He was known for his exceptional musical talent (especially on key board), having performed with numerous groups, locally and around the U.S. Some of the bands he performed with were: “The Conductors” , 1965-67, “Prince Charles and the Royaltones” (who performed at Expo 67 in Canda), 1967-69, “Fathers Angels”“Jonah”“The Spiral Starecase” (known for “I love You More Today Than Yesterday”), and “Magique”.

After moving to Florida in the late 1980s, he lost touch and almost all contact with friends and former bandmates. After having been asked many times over the years, “Have you heard anything from Barry?”, this past week, I received confirmation of his passing in March. Even though it is seven months after the fact, I thought there would be friends who would want to know.

Rest in peace, friend.
