India already has changed the names of cities back to their Sanskit forms (Mumbai instead of Bombay). 

I actually think one other huge reason the Indian /Bharati government wants to change it is so that they can assign blame for losing the war with Pakistan (they broke off from India in the war) to a completely different country. heh 

Hindus can often be unbelievably petty about ego things and humiliation - so that would be a good way for the current government to separate itself from past failures.
