That is the punch line to an olde joke. It occurred to me as I read two unrelated news items this morning. I have often been amused by the use of the word "demand" in a non-economic sense. Wind Industry Blackmails UK Demanding Huge Ramp-Up Of Subsidies" . . . threatening to abandon the U.K. unless subsidies for their companies are hugely increased..." "Abandon?" Is that like "leave?" Promise? Or this one: "Kiev demanding replacements of destroyed Leopard tanks.." And if we don't replace them what're you gonna do? Die? Can I get back to you? --- Regards, Russ |
