I have always remembered Dennis Prager quoting his father when Dennis encountered a particularly ignorant, stupid academic spouting nonsense. Prager's father used to say, "There is no greater fool than an 'educated' fool". 

Very little universal knowledge comes out of universities these days (unless you're going to one of the great schools).
