It helps me to be a better Christian. It is closely linked in my own mind to the idea, "...not my will, but Thine".  

Because I believe that God's power and knowledge are infinitely greater than mine, I don't feel I need to beg for specific things to be done for those who are worthy. God already knows and cares about His children far more than I ever could. 

That is how I look at prayer, but I don't require others to endorse my POV.
