The explosive force of the eruption was 600 times larger than Hiroshima (15 kilotons X 600 = 9 megatons). Thankfully most of the force was absorbed by the ground/water, but enough blasted through to the surface to generate what was likely the loudest sound generated on the planet in hundreds of years. The shock-wave/noise from the explosion was apparently so great that some were deafened. So it appears the explosive eruption of the super-caldera under Yellowstone Park as depicted in the film, "2012" is not really an exaggeration. ![]() Modified by LateForLunch at Thu, Jan 20, 2022, 06:20:25 |
