I do understand his understanding of his condition is bad, but even he will know he is having issues. He will have good days and bad days, but he should be at least somewhat aware of that.

Note that it is common for such to also be a 'sundown' type of condition. Can only keep it together for so much and once the sun sets, his mind likely does as well.
