That being the belief that the explanation for anything generally is the one which requires the least number of assumptions to be true.
In this case, Ockham's Razor says, "some GOP candidates lost because they were weak and ran bad campaigns".
McCain was likely already having problems related to his brain cancer when he ran. Calling off the debate was likely the sigil event which demonstrated that he did not suss the sturm unt drang of campaigning very well.
Same for Bob Dole (too bland and not much use in a scrap).
Romney, well, there is someone who just might be twisted enough to throw an election - but I doubt he has the courage.
