If you harvest the apples and take them to market, you can shoot any deer that come to feed on them, legally.
At least you can in Pennsylvania. One of the drummers I worked with had a farm up in the northwest boonies, and that's what he did. His mom lived on the farm, and she always had a freezer full of venison, courtesy of sonny boy.
'Course, that's just for conversation. I understand that you are way past the comfort level of shooting animals, like I am.
But in a catastrophic pinch, all bets are off.
