The researchers did not have an ax to grind (not ecoparanoids or vegans). They were just scientists (real ones) voicing concerns about prions.

Mad Cow disease may have a correlate condition which turns out to be Alzheimers. The lethal mechanism for Mad Cow disease is similar to Alzheimers (caused by prions). Same for Cruchfield-Jakob's disease.
