Virginians Gear Up To Defend Second Amendment Rights

Virginia Special Session
Our friends at Ammoland.com and the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) have alerted us to the VCDL Special Session Lobby Day on Tuesday, July 9, starting at 9 a.m.

This event is critical! With razor-thin pro-2A margins in the House and Senate, a single legislator defection could spell significant erosion of our Second Amendment rights in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In order to protect our Second Amendment rights, we need to have a huge Lobby Day, as this special session is aimed squarely at our gun rights and our liberty. Please attend this event if there is any way possible. Tell your employer NOW that you need to take the day off on Tuesday, July 9th. The gun-controllers will be there, fully supporting Governor Ralph Northam's anti-gun agenda.

Lobby Day participants will meet at the Bell Tower on the Capitol grounds at 9th and Bank streets in Richmond and will go into the building in groups. No lobbying experience necessary! Everyone will be given a “Guns Save Lives” sticker to wear. We want the building and committee hearing rooms flooded with people wearing them.

Each group will have a handout to give to each assigned legislator or their aide. More details will follow as the date gets closer, including carpooling options for those who are not reasonably close to Richmond. Ad Hoc groups will be formed for those arriving late.

There may well be committee or subcommittee hearings later that day, so we might need as many people as possible to hang around and flood the hearing rooms. The session may go on for days, so if you can attend committee or subcommittee meetings on other days, please do so!

The VCDL organizers of Lobby Day ask that if you are a member of a gun or hunting club, share this information about Lobby Day with club's leadership and have them email it to all the club's members! Do the same for any Legislative Action Items, too. All hands on deck!

TEAM LEADERS ALSO NEEDED

If you have attended a Lobby Day before and would like to be a team leader, contact EM Ken Van Wyk, who is coordinating the teams. You can reach Ken at: LobbyDay@vcdl.org" style="color: rgb(0, 149, 221); text-decoration-line: none;">LobbyDay@vcdl.org

Team Leaders are responsible for:

  1. knowing the locations of their assigned legislators (we will provide help on how to do so)
  2. making appointments with assigned legislators
  3. leading a team from one assigned legislative office to the next
  4. providing each legislator or their aide with a copy of the VCDL Legislative Summary
  5. politely introducing your group as a VCDL delegation
  6. asking the legislator (either directly or through their aide) to support VCDL's positions on behalf of Virginia gun owners and
  7. steering the general discussion of the meeting

VCDL will provide you with an after-action report to fill out which records your assessment of the contacts.

Team Leaders are NOT responsible for recruiting teams, there will be plenty of volunteers available that morning to draw from. Team Leaders are also NOT required to do all the talking. In fact, having different people speak on different bills can be more engaging.

HERE'S WHAT’S ON THE AGENDA

As our friends at the Virginia Citizens Defense League pointed out in a recent email rather than take action on issues that might help curb mass shootings, while respecting the Second Amendment, the Governor and Democrat leadership see this as a chance to payback Michael Bloomberg for his large donations to Democrat campaigns by passing Bloomberg's gun-control wish list:

Red Flag laws - forget the unconstitutionality of this law, no one thought the Virginia Beach murderer to be a threat, so that law would have changed nothing.

Universal Background Checks - the Virginia Beach murderer passed at least two background checks, just like the Virginia Tech murderer.  And street thugs don't go through background checks to get their guns.

"Assault Weapon" ban - no "assault weapons" were used in the Virginia Beach massacre.  Long guns are rarely ever used in crime.

Magazine-capacity limits - the commission on the Virginia Tech massacre concluded that restricting magazine size would not have changed the outcome.

Silencer/suppressor ban - it is extremely rare that a lawfully owned suppressor is used in a crime.  They are not popular with criminals because 1) the gun shot is still loud and 2) it doubles the length of a handgun, making it much more difficult to conceal.

Bump-stock ban - bump stocks have only been used in one crime, out in Nevada and there is no evidence that it increased the number of injuries or fatalities. We note for the record that the federal government is already trying to ban them, although that is being litigated, and we hope successfully overturned.

Allow local government to implement gun control (get rid of firearm pre-emption law) - the Virginia Beach government building was already a "gun-free zone."  What are they going to do, make it a double-gun-free-zone?  This would make gun laws in Virginia extremely hard to comply with, benefiting criminals, who don't care about laws, and dissuading good people due to the complexities of carrying legally as they travel through the state.

Not a single one of these proposed gun-control laws would have saved anyone in Virginia Beach.

But, as our friends at the VCDL observed, this is not about saving lives, it is about political theater. And we would add, reestablishing a bunch of deeply tarnished Democrat elected officials as good and proper liberals once again eligible to be invited to enjoy brie and pinot at the salons of Georgetown, Charlottesville and other bastions of the Leftist elite from which they’ve no doubt been excluded since their racism and sexual misconduct was exposed.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League considers this an all-hands-on-deck moment and so do we – the aftermath of any tragedy is when respect for constitutional liberty is at its weakest and political considerations are at their strongest. Go to https://www.vcdl.org/ to learn how you can contact your Virginia Delegate or Senator to help fight this latest Democrat gun grab.

LIBERTY HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE

Democrats wouldn't buy a clue if it was government subsidized.
