Dershowitz: Dems hunting for something that doesn't exist - WND

4-5 minutes

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz

Alan Dershowitz, famed Harvard lawyer and longtime dedicated liberal, already has concluded that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sounds like Josef Stalin in her demands to see President Trump in prison.

And he’s on record believing FBI special counsel Robert Mueller was “going beyond his responsibility” in his political comments about his work on the Democrats’ effort to tarnish Trump by claiming his campaign coordinated with Russia.

And he’s said there should be contempt counts against fired FBI chief James Comey and others for their submissions to the nation’s FISA courts.

Now he explains the Democrats are simply trying to find something that doesn’t exist, in their ongoing attacks on the president.

“They’re looking to create something that isn’t there,” he said in at interview with the Washington Examiner’s Eddie Scarry on Monday.

“They’re trying to weaponize the criminal justice system for partisan advantage. It’s not there. There’s no obstruction of justice in the [Mueller] report.”

The comments come in light of multiple congressional events that are scheduled that are aimed at attacking the president. Various committees, headed by Democrats in the House during this Congress, have announced their intention to re-do the Mueller investigation, which found, after more than two years and millions of dollars of work, there was no collusion on the part of the Trump campaign, even though the Russians did interfere with the election – often through social media.

In fact, several prominent Democrat leaders in Congress have stated – as “fact” – that the president has committed crimes, and they intend to bring him to justice.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has stated she wants to see him not impeached but in prison.

This week Democrats have summoned John Dean, whose claim to fame came during the Watergate scandal of nearly 50 years ago, to testify.

He’s expected to speculate about President Trump’s actions.

“Dershowitz said that the difference between Nixon and Trump is that Nixon paid off potential witnesses, told them to lie, and physically destroyed evidence that could be used against him in the Watergate scandal. Trump, by contrast, had a phone call with his lawyer,” the commentary explained.

“What you see in the Mueller report is the president thinking about how to end this, what he called a ‘witch hunt,'” said Dershowitz. “And any subject of an investigation is entitled to think about ending it and to seek advice about whether to fire or not fire those conducting it. And he’s entitled to pardon people and fire them. So I don’t see any criminal conduct.”

Democrats have pointed to the evidence that Trump wanted the special counsel investigation to end. But in fact, Mueller stayed in his office for more than two years, completed his investigation and issued his report.

Concluded the commentary, “Democrats have never cared about whether anything was unlawful. It’s a political hit job. We wouldn’t still be talking about this two years FBI Director James Comey was fired if it wasn’t.”

Dershowitz earlier said he was appalled by Pelosi’s demand for jail for Trump “without him being charged with any crime, without him being charged with any impeachable offense. It’s just outrageous.”

Mueller came under Dershowitz’ fire for stating, “if we had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime we would have said that.”

Dershowitz said it was Mueller giving Democrats “a political gift.”

“By implying that President Trump might have committed obstruction of justice, Mueller effectively invited Democrats to institute impeachment proceedings,” he said earlier.

Democrats wouldn't buy a clue if it was government subsidized.
