Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz filed a motion — with a nod to the president — that seeks to remove Rep. Adam Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee and revoke his security clearance immediately.

Dubbed the “PENCIL Act,” an apparent reference to President Trump mocking Schiff as “little pencil neck,” the Wednesday motion claimed Schiff “could no longer be trusted by his colleagues in Congress or the American people” and accused him of making false statements and slandering Trump.

Schiff has long been a vocal critic of the president and repeatedly claimed that there was evidence that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government.

The act also referenced a letter signed by nine Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee in March who said they had “no faith” in Schiff’s ability to discharge his duties and criticized Schiff’s advancement of the “demonstrably false narrative” of collusion. The letter, which was obtained by Fox News, asked Schiff to step down from his position as chairman of the committee.

Earlier this week, Schiff defended his accusations against the president, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper that “the moment that we start to think that we should back away from exposing this kind of malfeasance and corruption is a dangerous point.”
