GI Gurdjieff had a word for people like him; "hasnamuss" : (1) "a person of very low self-awareness but great depravity, who is among those rightly least worthy to have power/authority over others, who yet seeks such power with obsessive, relentless, brutal ferocity."
Gurdjieff lived in the Soviet era in many Communist controlled nations. He had to escape more than once from serious danger by leaving behind everything he owned and fleeing on foot. His contempt for Communism and the sorts of people who typically rose in its ranks, was book.
