Police change name to ‘PoPo’ – what could go wrong?

In keeping with a popular nickname used by youth for police for decades, a Michigan police department jokingly labeled itself the “PoPo.”

The Bath Township Police Department posted the following image of its patrol vehicle to Facebook.

“[W]e are still struggling to really reach the younger folk out there,” the department wrote in its post. “So in an effort to bridge that gap, we’ve decided to update our patrol car graphics in an attempt to be more relatable to the local youths.”

The police concluded the post with a series of hashtags, including #HopingForMoreWavingWithAllFiveFingers and #PopoWithPupo.

The department admitted the post was actually just a silly prank.

“This is just a joke picture we made up in MS Paint, so we are still fully marked,” Bath Township commented.

The Facebook post went viral, with nearly 5,000 shares and more than 900 comments. Reaction to the post was mostly supportive, but some users were critical and even suggested the joke had racial undertones.

“Notice almost everyone who thinks this is hilarious is white,” commented Kay A-e.

Another critic, Judy Gunderson Mcintire, wrote: “This is considered dumming [sic] down. There are many other ways to relate, maybe even taking the time to converse with them. Children should be taught to respect the officers. I for one think this is inappropriate.”

However, most Facebook users echoed the post of Jessica Kobliska: “Funniest police department ever.”

Those who support this obvious publicity stunt (and even those who don't) are ignorant of the fact that "POPO" in 'inside' police vernacular means "Pissing Off a Police Officer", and is used to describe the reason for hassling someone who has done nothing wrong except being obstinate. For example, a cop asks you for ID. Instead of cooperating, you respond "Why? Dindoonuffin'." Wrong answer. You have now incurred "POPO".

Believe me, the cops who are witnessing this are chuckling behind their hands, because the public is so chumpified as to believe the 'official' explanation.

'Don't believe me? Ask a cop.

Democrats wouldn't buy a clue if it was government subsidized.
