In many of his novels, Heinlein's villains were government goons. Humorless, dull-witted usually, they were also simpletons and inept dopes. In Stranger in a Strange Land, the villians are almost exclusively government agencies and goons. Same for "The Long Watch" from his, Green Hills of Earth anthology. How true-to-life in these days of modern times* (nods to Teebone). Largely and increasingly, the government is not only refusing to fix problems, the government IS the problem. * That is a line from an ancient radio show called, "The Firesign Theater". Teebone also heard that group perform and was (as I) very familiar with their material I was in high school when they were popular. That line is from a recording they did titled; Don't Crush That Dwarf Hand Me the Pliers The line was spoken by a faux Evangelical minister on a late night T.V. show.
