...he tends to take short, slow steps (almost shuffles) and looks as if he is afraid of losing his balance. Those are both indicators for Alzheimers dementia onset. Signs of impairment are walking more-slowly than average (even when the principle has no physical impairment) and having problems with balance when walking, stepping up/down, changing direction as they walk or rising from sitting to a standing position.
