...that being said, the law tends to look at actions like short video clips- not a long movie. The jury believed the officer was grossly negligent in failing to ensure she drew and brought the correct weapon to bear. That was all that was necessary to find her guilty. Apart from the suspect's behavior, the officer had legal esponsibilities discrete from peripheral considerations.
This is a good case in point of how the law is not always an effective mechanism for administration of justice. Potter stepped on a landmine when she pulled the trigger on the wrong weapon - juries are capricious and subject to impressions which are not always objective(politics).
